Ordinary Lads + The Girls Next Door

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

Last night I went to watch a play - Ordinary Lads and The Girls Next Door. This had two separate sections and was being directed by a friend of my girlfriend.

The Ordinary Lads was fantastic as the characters were very funny (especially the loan shark) but The Girls Next Door was a bit over the top for me.

It took place in Etcetera Theatre which is ABOVE The Oxford Arms in Camden. The room is pretty small with seating for around 40 but this fitted the plays perfectly. They were set in a front room and I was in the front row at ground level it felt like I was part of the play!

Lord of the Rings

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

Last night went to watch the Lord of the Rings show at Drury Lane Theatre (near Covent Garden).

I definitely think it is better as a film or a book but it converted to the theatre well. The set was very impressive and some of the production was fantastic. Golum was good and there was a great scene wtih him swimming down to get the ring.

The songs seemed bit unnecessary at times but the singing was very good. The best bit was the orks roaming the audience during the interval which really was pretty scary.

Overall, a good show but not as engrossing as it could have been.
